SRPS Diesel Group
The Scottish Class 37 Golden Jubilee
Sunday 2nd January 2011

To celebrate 50 years since the first class 37 locomotive ran on Britain's railways, the SRPS Diesel Group organised a running day with the loco type on the Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway. In total seven class 37s were on site with five in operation throughout the day. Visiting the railway were 37423 from DRS, 37685 from WCRC and 37906 with its Ruston engine. 37025 and 37175 were the local based engines with 37175 only having been back in service for a few days after an extensive engine overhaul. In the yard was 37403 and 37413 of which 37403 is under restoration. The locos were running in top n tail mode throughout the day departing Bo'ness hourly. 37423 was on all of the runs (providing ETH) except the last return from Manuel where it left the line to head back to Grangemouth for its next duty. Passenger numbers were high and an extra coach was added in the middle of the day to ease the conditions. A fantastic day was had by all. Full credit to those in the SRPS Diesel Group for a well organised event and the many hours of hard graft, in particularly getting 37175 back in operation in time for the event.

SRPS Railtours
The Oban Special
Saturday 14th August 2010

SRPS Railtours organised a chance for those in the north east of Scotland a trip behind class 37s to Oban. On early Saturday morning the tour started from Inverurie. West Coast Railway's class 37s, 37516 and 37676 hauled the stock south, down the east coast and then in land to Perth. The tour continues south to Glasgow and then back north up the West Highland line to Arrochar where we next catch the tour. At Crianlarich the tour diverges left on to the Oban line and we see the pair of 37s attacking the climb out of Lower Tyndrum. From Oban we chase the tour back as far as Crianlarich.

The West Highlander
Saturday 9th May 2009

The regular May outing to Fort William and Mallaig would prove to be the last working for EWS/DB Schenker class 37s on an SRPS Railtour. Locos 37670 and 37401, roll into Glenrothes with Thornton on the empty stock working from Bo'ness prior to departing at 0534. At North Queensferry, the pair blast out of the tunnel prior to crossing the Forth Bridge and the heading west towards Glasgow. Now on the West Highland line we see the ageing locos arrive and depart from Arrochar and then a cracking blast away from Bridge of Orchy. At Fort William a double run round is required to get ETH fitted 37401 to the front for the run up the West Highland line extension to Mallaig and also for ETH supply on the return from Fort William. The return south provides us with more great views of the veteran locos at work.

Running time 80 minutes. On screen captions. No commentary.
